The Kingdom of Aldegia (アルディギア王国 Arudigia ōkoku?) or Aldegyr Kingdom or Magic Kingdom of Aldegyr is a small Northern European nation on the coast of the Baltic Sea. It is a constitutional monarchy ruled by Lucas Rihavein. Known for its beautiful natural environment and high-tech industrial power, it was especially famous for production of magical products. The royal family's girls—with few exceptions—are powerful spirit mediums, and many high-level spells are passed down through the family.

Information[]

The kingdom of Aldegia was a small European nation on the coast of the Baltic Sea. Known for its beautiful natural environment and high-tech industrial power, it was especially famous for production of magical products.[1]It’s also a popular tourism destination. It has trees and lakes, and if you go up north, you can see auroras, too. Its famous foods are reindeer stew, pickled herring, and berry pie.[2]

Approximately twenty percent of Aldegia’s populace is composed of immigrants from the Warlord’s Empire, and even beyond them, another tenth or so are said to be people born of mixed descent from demons.[3]

In Aldegia, the Fourth Primogenitor boasts exceedingly high popularity. In man-on-the-street questionnaires, the total between values of highly favorable, favorable, and slightly favorable is seventy-four percent. The percentage believing in the existence of the Fourth Primogenitor exceeds ninety percent.[3]

Plot[]

Labyrinth of the Blue Witch[]

The Aldegian knights would assist in the capture of LCO operatives that had landed on Itogami Island in exchange for the grimoires in their possession. That was the condition La Folia had set. In so doing, the Island Guard had received aid in the field when it mattered most, and the kingdom of Aldegia had obtained precious grimoires in turn. It was a win-win deal typical of La Folia, a seasoned negotiator.

The Twelve Blood Servants[]

The revolt within Aldegia a few days prior had caused faith in the monarchy to plunge. Even though they’d forced the North Atlantic Empire to pay a great deal in compensation and the physical damage had been minimal, that had been nothing more than a diplomatic victory. They had needed to borrow the Fourth Primogenitor’s aid to quell a disturbance within the kingdom—this was how Aldegia was being appraised on a military level.

Geography[]

Verterace[]

The capital of the kingdom is the royal capital of Verterace, where the Aldegian Royal Palace is situated. The bay and lake had been formed by the erosion from a glacier. The beautiful skyline was a mix of modern skyscrapers and traditional structures standing side by side. The streets were filled with numerous tourists.[2]The temperatures in Aldegia were relatively low during the golden week; the comparatively warm royal capital, Verterace, was between 0 and 4 degrees Celsius. If one went to the higher elevations in the interior, days of blowing snow were apparently still common.[4]When a person crosses a bridge separating the royal city from the outskirts, they get out of the vehicle and into a silver-colored tram. Pedestrians were prioritized, and driving vehicles for personal use was heavily restricted in Verterace, so the tram was a crucial way to move around the city. Verterace, surrounded on all four sides by the sea and canals, was small for a city; it would only take one half a day to walk from one edge of it to the other. The skyline and structures were functional, and the whole city looked like it had an art nouveau, handicraft chic to it. For an urban area, it had numerous parks and other greenery, and its intricate water’s edge scenery engendered a refined atmosphere worthy of its nickname, the Goddess of the Baltic Sea. This city repeatedly suffered great damage in wars with demons, with large areas lost to the flames. Today’s Verterace was rebuilt by Lande to enter the twentieth century. An important trading city since ancient times, Verterace, was a city constructed atop dragon lines. Though this natural terrain and the artificial isle were very different, there were numerous similarities in the technology they used to control the vast energies hailing from the dragon lines. Chances were high that Itogami Island’s design had been influenced by Verterace.[5]

Their was the entrance to a large street known as Nakaris Way. It was one of the several shopping districts within city limits, lined with the fashion brand and sorcerous device stores that represented Aldegia. Along the street were rows of various stores such as restaurants, flower shops, and accessory boutiques and the like being visited by a large throng of residents. Many foreign tourists could be seen among them. The street was especially lively.[5]

There was a building where many people in native dress were gathered and seemed to be some kind of tour guide office. The building’s shelves were lined with bags and accessories that looked like traditional handicrafts. All were intricate and beautiful, and every product seemed to radiate handmade warmth.[5]

A little park on top of a slightly tall hill. At the top of a long stairway was a fountain, in the center of which stood a beautiful sculpture. It was a magnificent bronze statue in the image of a Valkyrie. The park had neither a wonderful view nor any statuesque buildings, but it was still crowded with tourists. There were a lot of young couples. It wasn’t so much that there were a lot of couples, as there was nothing but couples. Young boys and girls with their bodies intimately nestled together, were speaking loving words in that not particularly large park. In a sense, this is the most famous tourist attraction in Verterace. According to legend, lovers who kiss before the Valkyrie are together for all of eternity. It is said that even if they flee to the ends of the earth, the man who breaks his promise will be slain by the Valkyrie’s curse without fail.[5]

Royal Palace[]

The Royal Palace of Aldegia also known as the Verterace Palace[6] has incredible magical barrier, it completely blocks eavesdropping and covert photography, and trespassing from the outside is pretty much impossible. Their hacking countermeasures are really something, too. The defenses burned even the Cyber Empress hands a bunch of times. In a party held at a royal palace, the food was frighteningly extravagant. Not only were the ingredients high quality, but the cooking was also done by skilled hands. Including bodyguards and servants, over a thousand people were assembled in the royal palace’s vast hall.[3]

Tenotia House[]

Surrounded by forest and hills, it was not so much quiet as a place in the middle of nowhere. In contrast to the image given by the word villa, the structure was small, looking like little more than a fancy country house at best. Tenotia, it would appear to be the name of a lake near the royal capital of Aldegia. The forest concealing it made it difficult to see, but the villa apparently stood behind a lake. So it was a very quiet mansion, a gloomy forest covered in the vestiges of snow, and a lake with no sign of human presence. Just as one would expected from the exterior appearance, the interior of the mansion was by no means vast or particularly grandiose. Even so, the structure was constructed spaciously enough to justify being called a royal villa. The marble floor gave off a glossy sparkle from being assiduously polished, and the wooden materials had changed to a beautiful amber color from the passage of long months and years. Mysteriously, the structure gave off nostalgic warmth even with a first visit. It was dark inside the dining hall. That was because the dozens of candles placed on the table served as its only interior lighting. Part of the walls and the ceiling of the dining hall had transparent glass spread across, through which the silver light of the moon poured down. The moonlight reflected off the surface of the lake, adding to its brightness. There were countless stars scattered across the sky. The ripples on the lake’s surface created a wild dance of light. The designer of the villa had splendidly created this surreal scenery.[4]The villa’s courtyard was beautiful as it welcomed the late spring. The tree branches swayed in the nighttime breeze. Silver moonlight shone on the flowers as they slept in their flower beds. Rosebushes had been landscaped to resemble a majestic corridor that continued to the edge of the water. Tiny waves rippled across the surface of the dusky lake, almost like a carpet of pure silver.[5]

Government[]

Aldegia was a constitutional monarchy, meaning that the Royal Family shares power with the constitutionally organized government also know as the Senate.

The King is the ruler and the Head of State of Aledgia.

The circumstances of one’s birth have nothing to do with calling oneself king of Aldegia. The individual accepted as the partner of a royal princess with the blessing of the Spirits—it is he alone who is permitted to call himself king.[3]

Culture[]

The citizens of the Kingdom of Aledgia were living in a hierarchical society; someone readily speaking words of gratitude despite their high status would come off as bizarre to the citizens of Aldegia.[4]

The Aldegian townspeople wore colorful native clothes. They included tunics tailored from felt fabric in vivid pastel colors and hats decorated with fine embroidery. The hems of their skirts were heavily pleated, and they wore stoles ornamented with countless straps over their shoulders. They were warm defenses against the cold while retaining the beauty of dresses, and they were adorable outfits. That is native dress from Aldegia’s northern reaches.[5]

It was usual Aldegian custom to enter a sauna wearing swimsuits.[6]

Technology[]

Aldegia was a small country. It had defended its independence despite this because superiority in sorcerous manufacturing and military might had underpinned its international influence.[7]

The Völundr System[]

The system is a cutting-edge piece of knight gear developed by the Kingdom of Aldegia. The powerful tactical support system uses spiritual energy transmitted by the reactor of a nearby airship to turn a mundane weapon into a magical one, temporarily giving it the might of a Holy Sword-class weapon. Thanks to this system, the Aldegian Knights of the Second Coming had gained great fame on the battlefield. Some even called them the mortal enemy of demonkind.[8] The kingdom of Aldegia’s Völundr System had been developed from the study of Gigas weaponry.[9]

The Svalinn System[]

The Svalinn System, a secret ritual of the kingdom of Aldegia, was said to be the pinnacle of defensive magic. The bulwark created by divine essence supplied by a spiritual reactor was special, able to repel vampiric Beast Vassals and physical attacks simultaneously.[10]

Spiritual reactor[]

Spiritual reactors—the power source of Aldegian airships. By calling forth spirits with a mass of pure spiritual energy from the upper dimensions, such devices supply the energy required for magical rituals.[11]

Bergelmir[]

These are magically powered bipedal military drones that stand three to four meters tall.

The Bifrost is a massive magical airship armed with dozens of underslung cannons and cruise missiles. It is also equipped with dozens of Bergelmir drones ready for rapid deployment.

Böðvildr[]

Strike the Blood Böðvildr 3

It was a shockingly huge craft. It was a ship built like a spindled balloon with a hull over five hundred meters long. The craft, large enough to carry a good couple-thousand people, was brimming with countless machine gun turrets. The hull’s thick armored shell, built with a special alloy, made the words flying fortress seem apt. It was an armored military airship. The glacier-like pearl blue armor was embellished with golden edges. And the hull was emblazoned with the image of a Valkyrie wielding a great sword. It was the emblem of a Northern Europe nation, the Kingdom of Aldegia.[12]

Floaty[]

Strike the Blood Floaty 4

It is a prototype aircraft. Normally, it is employed as an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, but its surveillance equipment was removed so that it was possible to cram a person onto it. Its cruising speed is three thousand four hundred kilometers per hour. According to calculations, it will impact its destination in one hundred and fifty seconds. Three thousand four hundred kilometers per hour amounted to Mach 2.8. There weren’t even many jet fighters that could reach that kind of speed. It was a straight-up supersonic cruise missile.[12]

Ragnvald[]

Strike the Blood Ragnvald 4

The ship was over 170 meters long. It was a giant armored airship covered in a shell formed of a special alloy, outfitted with four turboprop engines and twelve machine-gun turrets. Upon its stabilizer wings, the image of a Valkyrie bearing a sword was emblazoned—the symbol of the royal family of the Northern European kingdom of Aldegia. The spindle-shaped hull was painted pale blue like a glimmering glacier with golden ornamentation at its edges. This was a flying fortress exclusive to the royal family and the loyal knights that served it.[8]

Rituals[]

Faux-angel[]

Faux-Angel was a forbidden spell of the Aldegian Royal Family. It forced humans’ spiritual pathways to evolve, turning them into an angel while they were still alive. Normally, the ritual required one to consume the flesh of others and absorb their spiritual pathways.[7]

Fimbulvetr[]

Even for a member of the Royal Family of Aldegia, who specialized in magic of water and ice, this secret ritual was tricky to pull off. The spell was powerful enough to be considered a strategic weapon. It would have been normal to feel fear and anxiety over if and when such a power might be turned upon you instead.[7]

Treasures[]

Shield of Skuld[]

The Shield of Skuld, one of the great treasures passed down in the Royal Family of Aldegia. It's metal was from the Age of the Gods. Though its name referred to a shield, the bracelet itself wasn’t very big at all. It was as large as a man’s wristwatch at best, and save for a wing design etched onto its surface, its ornamentation was subdued. The surface of the bracelet was not dulled whatsoever, gleaming as beautifully as the day it had been crafted.[13]

Military[]

A small nation like the kingdom of Aldegia on the front lines of international conflict is able to resist the Warlord’s Empire because the priestess power in the royal family is so strong.[14]Since it borders the Warlord's Empire, the Aldegian Army has a wealth of experience combating demons, and their soldiers' courage is famous even today.[15] They specialise in weapons that mix magic and technology which are strong enough for the small Kingdom to hold its own against the vampires of the Warlord's Empire.

Aldegia's military, like that of any other modern nation, is divided into several divisions, each of which plays a distinct function in the Kingdom's defense. While certain divisions are more prominent than others, the following have all appeared in the series at least once:

Aldegian Knights of the Second Coming[]

Strike the Blood Aldegian Knights of the Second Coming (2)

The greatest amongst their fighters are the Aldegian Knights of the Second Coming also known as the Royal Guard. Aldegia’s Knights of the Second Coming are without doubt the world’s top class when it comes to achievements and experience in anti-demon combat exploits.[4]

Aldegian special forces[]

A group clad in black combat outfits. They were wielding short-barreled submachine guns intended for indoor combat. They could spread out with organized, well-drilled movements, taking over an area in mere moments.[4]

Known bases[]

  • Askola Air Force Base: This was a base of the Aldegian Air Force some twenty kilometers’ direct flight distance from the royal capital, Verterace.[4]

Foreign relations[]

Empire of the Dawn[]

Kojou Akatsuki, king of the Dominion of Itogami city-state was considered the friend of the kingdom of Aldegia.[2]

Warlord's Empire[]

Forty years before the main series, the kingdom of Aldegia and the Warlord’s Empire had ended their eternal war and formed a peace treaty.[4] In the 20th century, Aldegia Kingdom and the Warlord's Empire would often find themselves in conflict. However, since the peace accord was enacted, the military and economic power they had pointed at each other has been focused elsewhere.

Japan[]

Thanks to the great distances involved, Aldegia had no deep links to Japan.[1]

North Atlantic Empire[]

Aldegia confronts the North Atlantic Empire over ocean floor oil deposit interests and ownership of Graceland Island.[16] After the capture of Trine Halden, the involvement of the North Atlantic Empire had not been divulged to the public. However, the Aldegian ruler had conducted under-the-table negotiations with the North Atlantic Empire over various matters, how to deal with the captive Trine and her subordinates included. La Folia insisted that the North Atlantic Empire compensate them for the equivalent of multiple Bifrosts, and the North Atlantic Empire side would have to make major concessions that would resolve outstanding territorial disputes and end in an announcement of shared ocean floor oil deposit extraction rights. That meant the failure of Trine’s scheme would result in the North Atlantic Empire coughing up painful reparations.[17]

Trivia[]

  • Aldegia uses a spy satelite to watch Kanon.[18]
  • The author modeled Aldegia after Northern Europe as a whole rather than on any country in particular, but many view it as Finland.[19]
  • Sayaka Kirasaka thought there was something seriously wrong with how the Aldegian royal family selected its maids.[20]
  • The names of the two lands—the kingdom of Aldegia and the duchy of Aldeal of the Warlord’s Empire— were a bit similar.[21]
  • There was a famous guidebook catering to travelers. The book’s title was Wandering the Earth: Kingdom of Aldegia Edition.[5]
