Aya Tokoyogi (仙都木 阿夜(とこよぎ あや) Tokoyogi Aya?) is the mother of Yuuma Tokoyogi, who was imprisoned in the Demon District prison barrier after the Black Bible incident; however, before she was imprisoned, she created her daughter Yuuma in order to free her. But, in order to achieve that, Yuuma borrowed the Fourth Primogenitors, Kojou Akatsuki's body in order to free her. But in the end, she was stopped by both Kojou and Yukina. Still, the Library was prepared for this and Aya was freed in the process, freeing six others with her. Eventually, Yuuma was betrayed by Aya, who used her as a decoy to attack Natsuki Minamiya.

Appearance[]

Aya greatly resembles Yuuma Tokoyogi. She has long flowing brown violet hair, Purple eyes and a cute pin on her hair, she is generally viewed as attractive despite her overall diabolical character.

Her hair was so long that it reached her feet. She wore a noblewoman’s ceremonial robe that looked like it came from the Heian period. The outfit was highly ornamental, but the way it was dyed only in white and black made her look like she was wearing a Grim Reaper costume. Her visage was young and beautiful, but her eyes were the color of flames—of fire. That gaze, part of a gentle smile, boded ill, indicating that she was far beyond the boundaries of humanity.[1]

She can turn her entire body into fire; only her eyes remained normal. It was not fire in the physical sense; these are ominous black flames that seem to have come from the pits of hell itself.

Personality[]

She sees little importance to the people close to her when she tried to kill her own daughter who spent decades trying to figure out a way to release her from the Prison Barrier. She displayed no remorse when she simply crossed Natsuki Minamiya's body with a demonic blade using her own daughter as a decoy, Yuuma Tokoyogi, and laughed sophisticatedly when she saw her daughter close to death. She is rarely caught by surprise and hardly changes the facial expression to despair, fear, angry, greed or other sentiment. Aya is very insensitive and not care about anyone but herself and also nothing but her powers, being able to commit atrocities and horrible things just to get the full power. Aya's personality is the complete opposite of her daughter hearted, gentle and peaceful light of Yuuma, who despite being the biological daughter of her, she did not showed the same evil like her mother.

She refers to her daughter as a doll and disposable product as all mankind. She is usually able to react to any situation evenly and only loses her temper even when her someone disrupts her goal

She hated humans for mocking witches as abominations and using them as they please[2]

She questions why magic and demons exist, why a single vampire is granted the power to destroy a giant city— she believes such an unbalanced state was not how the world should be. Aya Tokoyogi has always believed that magic and demons are not things that should exist except in human imagination. She believe that the only proper world is one where they do not exist.[2]

Aya had not killed Natsuki during the fight at the prison barrier. Though she’d stolen Natsuki’s memories, she’d made no sign of pursuing Natsuki when she fled to safety. Even now, with Natsuki captured in the form of the powerless Sana, Aya had left her alone. Perhaps Aya Tokoyogi had not wanted to fight Natsuki until the very end. Perhaps, even while held in the prison barrier, she’d been concerned for Natsuki, left behind all alone. Perhaps, to Aya, Natsuki truly was a friend.[2]

Perhaps Aya Tokoyogi really did want to change the world. If supernatural power vanished from the face of the earth, there would no longer be any reason to fear witches. Perhaps that was indeed her wish. But in the process, she was hurting people weaker than herself and walking all over them.[2]

Goal[]

Erasing all supernatural power was not the objective of Aya Tokoyogi, the Witch of the Notaria. Her objective was to rewrite the very world into the shape she believed to be correct.[2]

History[]

Aya's past is unknown, and she has committed crimes that are completely unknown, but must have been horrible atrocities to receive the penalty of being imprisoned for eternity in the Prison Barrier. Uncompensated before she was arrested, she created Yuuma Tokoyogi, a copy of herself by parthenogenesis.

She created a clone of herself that was scheduled with the objective of breaking the seal the Demon Prison's barrier to release her after she was arrested. Yuuma was created just for that purpose, so after Aya was released, Yuuma would be become unnecessary, and she would be nothing more than an expendable object—after she was released, she stabs Yuuma after saying she was useless, using her as a decoy to kill Natsuki Minamiya, through enormous magical power and a blood bond more powerful than any spell, Aya Tokoyogi interfered with Yuuma’s Guardian and stole it from her. After that, she tried to capture Natsuki to use her Magic to take the memories of the grimoire Black Bible, however, Natsuki managed to move to another place by creating a new "clone" of her that was a regressed part of her that was without her memories and history as an experienced Attack Mage through the use of No. 14 grimoire by Aya Tokoyogi and landed in the middle of the city with Asagi Aiba to escape from the escaped criminals from the Prison Barrier.

Aya tricked the prisoners who had escaped from the prison into believing that Natsuki Minamiya still had the key to be completely free from the Prison Barrier. Despite the efforts of the prisoners, they were exterminated one by one, and were sent back to the prison. Aya tried to do things by herself after that. She used the Black Bible from Natsuki Minamiya's memories to erase any supernatural powers and rewrite the rules of the world, despite her plan been almost successful, she was defeated by Kojou Akatsuki who drank the blood of Yuuma, who also had Aya's biological traces, to gain resistance to the Black Bible.

At the end of the fight, she refused to return to the Prison Barrier and surrender. In one more move to attempt rewrite the world, she gave her own soul to a Devil and entered a witch's final stage as a last trump card, however, the demon was defeated by Yukina Himeragi's weapon, and finally Aya was defeated. Cold and unconscious and humiliated on her last scene. She was sent back to the deepest place of the prison for the rest of her life.

Plot[]

Labyrinth of the Blue Witch[]

Fiesta for the Observers[]

Aya Tokoyogi stood upon the towering gate of the fortress, her long hair flowing down to her feet and her body wrapped in a noblewoman’s ceremonial robe reminiscent of the Heian era. From her elevated perch, she spoke with quiet authority, explaining that the empty cathedral around them was the physical manifestation of the prison barrier—an illusionary world constructed within Natsuki Minamiya’s dream. It was a magical prison designed to confine only the most dangerous sorcerers, one where escape was impossible because it existed inside another’s mind. Yet Aya, now awakened from her long slumber, declared that the barrier had emerged into reality, and for her, escaping from it would be no great difficulty. Her laughter, soft and eerie, carried through the air, echoing with the same voice they had once heard from Yuuma’s Guardian—the voice of the notorious sorcerous criminal who had sacrificed her own daughter to strike down Natsuki Minamiya.

Yuuma, drenched in blood and barely standing, recognized the voice with horror. She could only utter a broken whisper, calling her mother’s name in disbelief. The resemblance between them was undeniable. Except for the color of their eyes and the difference in hair length, Aya and Yuuma were nearly identical, sharing the same face, age, and features. Kojou and the others could hardly accept it, but the truth was evident.

Aya’s expression turned to mockery as she revealed that Yuuma was nothing more than a clone of herself, created through parthenogenesis solely to break the seal of the prison barrier. She referred to Yuuma as her shadow, a mere extension of her own being, something that existed only to serve her purpose. Aya began to strip Yuuma of her power.

Blood poured from Yuuma’s mouth as her scream pierced the air. Behind her, the form of her Guardian—a faceless knight clad in blue armor—appeared and began to writhe in agony. Strange, black markings spread across its body like veins as if it were being consumed by dark magic. Aya’s immense power and her blood connection to Yuuma allowed her to forcibly seize control of the Guardian. Kojou and Yukina could do nothing to stop her, knowing that any attack against Aya would rebound upon Yuuma herself.

Yuuma’s pleas grew weaker as she begged her mother to stop, but Aya only smiled coldly, her burning eyes filled with pitiless resolve. With a gesture of her hand, she tore the Guardian’s bond away from her daughter, shattering Yuuma’s magical essence. The sound of the rupture cracked like a breaking tree, and Yuuma’s body convulsed as her life force seemed to be ripped from her.

The blue armor of the Guardian turned pitch black, and the creature roared like a beast freed from its chains before taking its place behind Aya, who had completely claimed it as her own. Yuuma collapsed to the ground like a broken doll, her body trembling and her eyes unfocused, barely clinging to life.

Kojou rushed to her side, lifting her fragile form in his arms as anger boiled inside him. Yukina, overwhelmed with fury, raised her spear toward the witch, unable to comprehend how a mother could inflict such cruelty upon her own child.

Aya remained composed, her tone calm and detached as she looked down at them from atop the gate. She dismissed their outrage, claiming that Yuuma was merely a doll of her own making, something she had every right to use as she pleased. To her, the girl’s suffering meant nothing.

Aya Tokoyogi stood bathed by Kojou’s tempest of magical energy as his Beast Vassal threatened to materialize, her eyebrows twitching at the might of the Fourth Primogenitor’s demonic power that disturbed even her calm composure. Before the Beast Vassal could fully materialize, Kojou’s body suddenly swayed and he fell to his knees, dizziness assailing him as he coughed violently and spat blood. Strength drained from his entire body; fresh blood turned to mist and streamed out as the bleeding coincided with what seemed like the collapse of his very power as a vampire. Realizing why Kojou was in poor shape, Aya casually murmured that he had been wounded by the Schneewaltzer, then turned her narrowed eyes of flame toward Yukina in delight and said the cunning raccoons of the Lion King Agency had finally found a wielder for that spear, adding that she thought her treatment of her daughter was quite kind compared to Yukina’s. Pale lightning arced from Kojou’s blood-drenched right hand, an electrical attack from Regulus Aurum, one of the three Beast Vassals he had barely managed to tame. The wound in his chest remained open; even if he could summon a Beast Vassal in this state, there was no guarantee he could control it. Kojou had no other way to stop Aya Tokoyogi as he was now, for she was a powerful witch with enough raw power to rip Yuuma’s Guardian right out of her. As if to mock his resolve, Aya pointed to the prison barrier upon which she stood and crafted a taunting smile, asking if he was certain—reminding him that though his power could dispatch her, the prison barrier would not escape unscathed and the caster controlling the barrier would pay a commensurate price. Kojou lurched to his knees and cried that she meant Natsuki, for with the prison barrier used as a shield against him, his Beast Vassals were simply too strong to attack Aya without inflicting damage upon the prison. Amused, Aya looked behind her and remarked that there were those who would be pleased by such an outcome. Kojou then noticed unfamiliar faces atop the prison barrier building: six figures—an old man, a woman, a man in armor, a gentlemanly type in a silk hat, a small-statured teenager, and a slender young man—whose ages and outfits held nothing in common. Their unmoved gazes made them seem as if they were looking down at worms. Yukina regripped her spear as Kojou realized Aya Tokoyogi had not been the only one imprisoned in the giant barrier; if Aya could break out, others could, too. These were the most fiendish of sorcerous criminals whom all normal means had failed to quell.

The gentleman in the silk hat spoke first, thanking Aya Tokoyogi, the Witch of the Notaria, for prying open the abominable barrier. Bathed in the jailbreakers’ bloodlust, Aya asked calmly why only six of them were present and what had happened to the others. The small young man atop the wall answered crudely that nothing had happened and then shouted, slicing the gentleman in the silk hat with a sudden attack that split his front from shoulder to belly and left him coughing up blood. The dreadlocked youth shouted triumphantly and the manacle on his left forearm glowed; countless chains gushed out and wrapped around the critically injured gentleman, dragging him into the air and into the prison barrier’s interior. The wounded man tried to resist but lacked the power, was swallowed by the air, and vanished.

Aya noted that the prison barrier system was still functioning; neither she nor the other jailbreakers showed emotion about the sorcerer’s disappearance. The one called Schtola D grinned darkly. A violet haired young woman then said they would not be fully free until they killed the Witch of the Void and the prison barrier was gone, asking Aya if she could tell them where the Witch was. Aya calmly shook her head and said she did not know Natsuki Minamiya’s location and that if they wished to kill that woman, they should search for her themselves. Schtola D declared no use for Aya if she would not cooperate and raised his hand to strike, regarding any non-useful human as an enemy. The little witch with the tome stopped him, saying she had not refused to assist; Schtola D seemed taken aback. A slender young man inspected Aya’s grimoire—Grimoire No. 014, Personal History—and deduced that Aya had used the power of the grimoire to put a curse on the Witch of the Void, robbing not only her memories but the time she experienced. The grimoire had taken the source of Natsuki’s power, meaning she could not currently use magic or her Guardian’s power. Schtola D took obvious delight at the revelation: the grimoire took her power, or rather the time and experience needed to get that power. Aya stroked the pages of her grimoire and reflected that it had taken a plan ten years in the making, using her own daughter’s body as a decoy, to finally get the Witch of the Void to lower her guard for a single moment—sufficient to activate the grimoire. Aya was aware there could be no escape from the prison barrier unless Natsuki Minamiya was defeated; that was why she’d waited for Natsuki to reveal a single moment of weakness, giving her the time to play her trump card.

The young man in glasses agreed coolly that Natsuki had fled just before completely losing her magical energy but would be unable to use magic for as long as the grimoire remained active, meaning the escapees only had to find her while she was on the run and deliver the final blow. The violet haired woman coquettishly suggested Aya lend them a hand, saying all of them wanted to kill Natsuki—perhaps the first to reach her would win. Natsuki’s magic remained sealed by Aya Tokoyogi; even if she had fled, she likely had not gone far. In her present amnesiac state, Natsuki had already been pushed nearly to the brink and could not have been in any state to fight off the convicts.

Abilities[]

Aya’s special ability, and why she was called the Witch of the Notaria, was to copy these grimoires from a person's memory. What she writes were not simple copies of the text; she completely recreated the magical power and dark spells of the original tome she worked from.[3]
